The Sriperumbudur–Oragadam belt in Kancheepuram district, about 40 km south-west of Chennai along NH-48, is one of India's largest manufacturing clusters. The SIPCOT Industrial Park at Sriperumbudur and the SIPCOT Industrial Growth Centre at Oragadam host automobile plants, auto-component suppliers and a growing base of electronics manufacturers. A newer electronics manufacturing cluster at Pillaipakkam near Sriperumbudur is adding component and EV-related units. Around the large plants are hundreds of suppliers, logistics firms and service providers.
A plant office is not a city office
Plants here run in shifts, often around the clock, and the people buying supplies are usually admin, HR or facility teams responsible for hundreds of workers as well as a smaller office staff. Their needs are different from a city office:
- Housekeeping supplies in volume for shop floors, canteens, washrooms and admin blocks.
- Toner and paper for the printers that run shift rosters, checklists and training records, with a known list so reorders are quick.

Why distance matters here
For plants 40 km or more from the city, running out of something is costly. A last-minute purchase means sending a vehicle or waiting days.
